When we are hyperventilating because of anxiety and panic or when we are overwhelmed with grief over the loss of a loved one, it can be difficult to recognize the gift of those emotional responses because they feel so undesirable to us. However, I am convinced that Scripture speaks to our experience of emotions by showing them to be active responses of love that are made in the present, passive reflections of the past, but also that they should be flavored with present help and future hope from God.
