Most every Santa Claus movie mentions Santa\u2019s \u201cNaughty and Nice List.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, in our modern biblical counseling world, the word \u201cclient\u201d has made the naughty list.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s what I imagine now\u2014some will be upset with me, and put this blog post on their \u201cnaughty list,\u201d because I\u2019m being playful with my title and introduction. It\u2019s Christmastime. Time for a little playfulness, right?<\/p>\n<p> <strong>Questions About the Word \u201cClient\u201d<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>So, who put the word \u201cclient\u201d on the biblical counseling naughty list? What\u2019s the background here?<\/p>\n<p>A couple of days ago, biblical counselor Jason Kovacs humbly asked on Twitter\/X,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em>\u201cBiblical counselors, how do you help your clients access beauty? What role does beauty and the imagination play in your counseling practice?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Several fellow biblical counselors responded with their practical suggestions. One counselor, Sean Perron, responded by questioning Kovac\u2019s use of the word \u201cclient.\u201d Perron tweeted:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cOne way is to not have \u2018clients.\u2019 Biblical counseling is for making disciples, not customers. I am confident you want to make disciples, but language is important.
