{"id":115415,"date":"2025-01-05T09:18:52","date_gmt":"2025-01-05T15:18:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biblicalcounselor.com\/?p=115415"},"modified":"2025-01-05T09:23:35","modified_gmt":"2025-01-05T15:23:35","slug":"a-call-to-charity-and-clarity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biblicalcounselor.com\/?p=115415","title":{"rendered":"A Call to Charity and Clarity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Christ and Christians<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Christ is \u201cfull of grace and truth\u201d (John 1:14).<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, as Christians, and as biblical counselors, too often we are \u201cfull of judgment and mischaracterization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p> <strong>Kuyper, Johnson, and French<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Today we listen as three Christians call us to charity and clarity\u2014to grace and truth: Abraham Kuyper, Eric Johnson, and David French.<\/p>\n<p> <strong>Abraham Kuyper\u2019s Call to Charity and Clarity<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>Mischaracterizing fellow Christians is nothing new. Abraham Kuyper, writing in 1905, in <em>Common Grace<\/em>, Vol. 3, describes the insidious strategy of his false accusers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cAnyone who takes the trouble to fully explain his views on an important topic surely has the right to be judged on the basis of his exposition and not merely some incidental comment\u201d (204).<\/p>\n<p>In other words, then, like now, people were taking the writings of a fellow believer out of context, cherry-picking individual statements, rather than rightly characterizing the author\u2019s comprehensive theological argument.<\/p>\n<p>How did Kuyper address fellow Christians mischaracterizing and misrepresenting his teachings? Let\u2019s see six principles Kuyper practiced in publicly responding to public false characterizations.<\/p>\n<p>   <strong>Kuyper publicly exposes how his accusers read him superficially.<\/strong>   <\/p>\n<p>People were publicly mischaracterizing Kuyper\u2019s biblical teaching on common grace.
