{"id":123564,"date":"2025-07-16T16:14:30","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T21:14:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biblicalcounselor.com\/?p=123564"},"modified":"2025-07-16T16:23:58","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T21:23:58","slug":"fear-not","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biblicalcounselor.com\/?p=123564","title":{"rendered":"\u201cFear Not\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>War and Fear<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>In Genesis 15:1, God speaks words of comfort directly to fearful Abram.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cAfter this, the word of the\u00a0Lord\u00a0came to Abram\u00a0in a vision: \u2018Do not be afraid,\u00a0Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The words\u201d \u201cafter this\u201d are similar to the word, \u201ctherefore.\u201d They alert us to remember the context. What happened previously in Abram\u2019s life in Genesis 14 that might prompt a response of fear?<\/p>\n<p>Genesis 14 is a warfare text. First, Kedorlaomer\u00a0the king of Elamand, and the three kings allied\u00a0with him, conquered the whole territory of the Amalekites. Then we witness a battle between nine kings\u2014four on Kedorlaomer\u2019s side, and five on the other side. Kedorlaomer and his allies win. In doing so, they take captive Abram\u2019s nephew, Lot (Genesis 14:11-12).<\/p>\n<p>Abram hears that his relative has been enslaved, calls up his own army, attacks the four kings, and brings back Lot (Genesis 14:14-17).<\/p>\n<p>We might assume that with victory won, it is now war and peace. Not so.
