I was recently making my way through Christopher Newman Hall&#8217;s <em>Pilgrim Songs in Cloud and Sunshine<\/em>, and was taken by a number of works, including this one, titled &#8220;Thy Way Is Best.&#8221; I thought you might enjoy reading it as well, for it is a simple but moving profession of faith amidst all of life&#8217;s circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>Thy way, O Lord !\u00a0Thy way\u2014not mine!<br \/> Although, opprest,<br \/> For smoother, sunnier paths I pine,<br \/> Thy way is best.<\/p>\n<p>Though crossing thirsty deserts drear,<br \/> Or mountain&#8217;s crest;<br \/> Although I faint with toil and fear,<br \/> Thy way is best.<\/p>\n<p>Though not one open door befriend<br \/> The passing guest;<br \/> Though night its darkest terror lend,<br \/> Thy way is best.<\/p>\n<p>So seeming wild without a plan,<br \/> Now east, now west,<br \/> Joys born and slain, hopes blighted,\u00a0can<br \/> Thy way be best?<\/p>\n<p>My soul by grief seems not to be<br \/> More pure and blest;<br \/> Alas!
