{"id":70492,"date":"2024-01-14T10:22:26","date_gmt":"2024-01-14T16:22:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biblicalcounselor.com\/?p=70492"},"modified":"2024-01-22T10:38:48","modified_gmt":"2024-01-22T16:38:48","slug":"19-biblical-passages-on-gods-holy-love-knowing-and-trusting-our-shepherd-king","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/biblicalcounselor.com\/?p=70492","title":{"rendered":"19 Biblical Passages on God\u2019s Holy Love: Knowing and Trusting Our Shepherd-King"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Couplets of God\u2019s Holy Love<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>In my previous post, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/rpmministries.org\/2024\/01\/knowing-god-our-father-of-holy-love\/\">Knowing God: Our Father of Holy Love<\/a><\/em>, I introduced John Stott\u2019s concept of couplets of God\u2019s holy love.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">A vision of God\u2019s holy love delivers us from caricatures of him, as John Stott reminds us. \u201cWe must picture him neither as an indulgent God who compromises his holiness in order to spare and spoil us, nor as a harsh, vindictive God who suppresses his love in order to crush and destroy us\u201d (<em>The Cross of Christ<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">That God is holy and loving is foundational to biblical Christianity and to biblical counseling. The Scriptures express the oneness or unity or simplicity<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> of God in terms of the complementary, indivisible nature of his holiness and love\u2014his holy love. Stott refers his readers to ten passages that highlight God\u2019s holiness and love, then concludes: \u201cHere are ten couplets, in each of which two complementary truths about God are brought together, as if to remind us that we must beware of speaking of one aspect of God\u2019s character without remembering its counterpart\u201d (<em>The Cross of Christ<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p> <strong>Our Father\u2019s Holy Love<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve searched the Scriptures, looking for additional couplets of God\u2019s holy love.
