The Goal of Counseling

I remember the moment in my first counseling class when the professor asked, “Do you know what the goal of all counseling is?” The question struck me for a couple of reasons. First, I hadn’t really thought of counseling as having a goal (shame on me). If I had to come up with one at that point, it would have probably been something like, “To help the counselee find a biblical solution to his problem.” Second, how could all counseling have the same goal?
