How do you respond when a counselee says their needs aren’t being met? Marriages, employees, friends, missionaries—the counseling room is awash in the wake of unsatisfied relationships strewn with the litter of empty love cups, tanks, and banks. Developing Trust for God’s Word: Walking a Counselee through Psalm 19

Every one of us has a worldview. It’s how we interpret our circumstances, and it shapes the way we respond to pressure and heat. Our worldview brings with it the effects of our childhood, the significant life events that molded us, and the people who impacted us along the way. Your counselee comes to your office interpreting the events of their life through the lens of their worldview. But rarely is their interpretation based on biblical truth—it is too skewed with their own experiences. While we should never demean a person’s experiences or background, we all need a plumb line outside of our own unreliable hearts to help us understand our circumstances and how to respond to them.
