Pastors, we have a problem. The contemporary church is underwhelmingly led by godly men who pastor in submission to the will and Word of God. The lack of godly men practicing biblical shepherding coupled with the disingenuous number of ministers untethered to God’s design for biblical ministry is a disturbing reality that has been addressed throughout church history and must continue to be addressed in the present and future. In an effort to speak to this present ecclesial malady, Paul Tautges has blessed the church with his book Discipling the Flock: A Call to Faithful Shepherding as a means to purify the pastoral church roster and to clarify the role and call of God’s pastor-shepherds.
