Instilling the Hope of Jesus’ High Priesthood in Counseling

Hopelessness feels like a pandemic in the church. Often when I counsel people, one of the major characteristics of the heart exposed during the meetings is that the believer sitting across from me does not have the functional confidence of a hope that is rooted in the person and work of Jesus Christ. To me, that is an incredibly sad state. When our hope is fixated on the person and ministry of Jesus, and the incredible and secure position that establishes comfort, then emotions will have less and less sway toward hopelessness. Fixated on the Finish: Counseling Christ through Distractions

Distractions are a reality of life. In the flow of just trying to live life, accomplish tasks, and be a Christian, distractions are not only present, but they seem to be magnetically drawn to us in a way that is suspiciously effective in accomplishing their goal. In other words, you don’t have to “try” to be distracted. It is not human nature to have an unbroken focus on the various tasks and jobs we have in life.
