You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. What Christ does here is amazing. He who called himself the Light of the World (John 8:12) assigns to us the same name! What is he saying? He is telling us that our mission here is to reflect his light wherever darkness exists.
