I had someone come into my office once and say, “It’s not fair – God seems not to ever send even an ounce of compassion my way. My life is falling apart, and He doesn’t even seem to care. Why? How can I trust a God that doesn’t ever seem to come through?”
Have you ever felt that way? Maybe there’s a specific situation in your life right now that feels very unfair.
We can easily conjure up the thought, “If God loves me, why doesn’t He stop sending hurt my way?”
It’s one of the toughest questions that a counselor must answer because the answer often isn’t satisfying in the moment. However, one of the advantages of being a counselor is that we often get to see how life’s choices and attitudes play out over the long haul.
Most people in crisis focus on the short-term pain, not the long-term gain. While helping with pain is part of what we do, God seems to place more emphasis on the long-term gain.
