“What is the Man?” Power, Autonomy, Glory, and Identity in Psalm 8

I believe the two most fundamental questions of every human are “Who am I?” and “Who are you?” We constantly ask these questions to ourselves and others. This was the case even before the Fall: the first question was answered by God (Gen. 1:26-27), and the second question was raised and answered by man (Adam): “This at last is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh” (Gen. 2:23). In other contributions to the series, Steve Midgley presents a metaphor of music for understanding the concept of embodiment, and Nate Brooks provides an example of viewing a particular counseling case in view of the whole person. In this two-part article, we will visit Ephesians 2:10 and rethink art, creativity, and our identity. Part One explained that 1) because we are God’s handiwork, we are infinitely valuable, and 2) because we are God’s handiwork, we must be transformed into the fullness of Christ by embodying the image of God creatively.
