Biblical counselors believe that God created men and women as equal before the Lord, yet with differing, complementary roles in the church and in the family. In marriage, Scripture teaches the essential equality and mutuality of each partner in a one-flesh union (Gen. 1:27; 2:24; Matt. 19:5; Eph. 5:31). Yet within that marital union, God has assigned distinct roles for husbands and wives.
