In my walk with Christ, I often know a truth before I really understand its significance. Similarly, I often know the things that Scripture says I should be doing, but I often struggle with how to do them. I imagine I’m not alone.

We all know Jesus’ words in the Sermon on the Mount: “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven” (Matt. 5:16, CSB). But many of us get stuck on how to shine our lights. Should I post more on social media? Should I serve at a local homeless shelter? Should I talk to my neighbors more?

As believers, we must apply the message of the cross to all of life. We must understand that the gospel has implications that are meant to bear fruit in and through our lives. The gospel compels and empowers us toward generosity, justice, brotherly love, and many other things! And it’s this fruit that’s a shining testimony of who Jesus is to our community.
