The words of Revelation 3:20 are interesting—and sad!
Here’s how that sentence in Jesus’ letter to the church at Laodicea reads:
See, I’m standing at the door and knocking. If anyone listens to My voice and opens the door I shall come in to him, and I shall eat with him, and He with Me.
This isn’t a gospel invitation, even though the painters and many preachers treat it so. It is Jesus speaking to the members of a church that has locked Him out!
Wow!
What a powerful figure it is.
Do you belong to such a church?
Will you open the door?
Will you cast off your lukewarmness, and sit down with Him at the table He will spread for you?
That table is His Word. In it you will find fellowship with Him and food for your soul. Then, having eaten. Get up, talk to the others in your congregation about the situation and, together, do something about it.
What?
In verse 19, He tells you—repent.
If you do your church can be changed. And if He is outside the door, it surely needs to be.
