Here’s an ultimate issue we can think about together: the varied shades of personality, upbringing, experiences, values, worldviews, communication skills, and goals—which make people unique, interesting, and beautiful in their own right—highlight the art of personal ministry which is required to counsel the Word. How can people be so similar to me and yet so different?! I invariably find counselees’ struggles match my own. I also realize they often see life through a different set of lenses than I do, and it poses a unique mismatch that challenges my personal skills.
