Elyse Fitzpatrick has teamed up with Eric Schumacher to provide a thoughtful challenge to the church. Taking the entirety of Scripture into consideration, it is clear God cares very deeply about the way his image-bearers are treated. He declared them “very good” (Gen. 1:31) at creation, decreed laws for their protection with the Israelites, and treated them with compassion and respect through the ministry of Christ. Thematically, this book considers the suggestion that, how Christians treat other image bearers, reveals what they believe about God. It’s a suggestion that is supported by the Bible, as John writes, “let us love one another, for love is from God and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God” (1 Jn. 4:7). Our treatment of one another is directly connected to our justification in Christ and understanding of the Lord. Reconciliation with God is a driving force for reconciliation with others (2 Cor. 5:11-21). So it follows that those who study and love the Lord would apply this knowledge by loving all image-bearers, including women.
